Position Description
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage tax reporting, planning and compliance.
• Execute tax compliance activities to meet all income and sales/use tax
returns filing due dates as required by the IRS and various state/local taxing authorities.
• Maintain records and mandatory documentation. Research and respond to notices and
inquiries from IRS, state and local officials on a timely basis.
• Manage and coordinate tax audits to mitigate exposure. Provide support as required
on significant audits.
• Accumulate federal and state income tax information into tax software. Prepare
federal and state tax returns, related schedules, and reports for review. Ensure all tax
payments are made properly in a timely manner.
• Minimize tax obligation. Determine areas for potential refunds.
• Manage, review and maintain sales/use tax exemption certificates to ensure proper
assessment, collection and remittance of sales/use tax to proper governments.
• Prepare quarterly income tax provision. Maintain detailed inventory of deferred
items with related deferred tax computation. Reconcile book to tax income. Prepare year end
calculations for various deferred items.
• Advise management regarding audits, effects of business activities on taxes, and
strategies for minimizing tax liability. Inform management of legislation relating to tax
changes that could affect company.
• Manage relationships and interaction with departments of revenue, outside accounting
and law firms, and Berkshire Hathaway.
• Perform and/or review LIFO calculations, depreciation classifications, adjustments
and class lives.
Serve as technical expert on tax issues. 25%
• Manage technical resources required to research and resolve tax issues.
• Maintain adequate documentation on tax positions.
• Maintain knowledge of local, state and federal tax issues including sales and use
tax changes and new laws.
• Complete continuing education requirements in order to maintain required licenses.
• Design, implement and continually improve procedures to facilitate pro-active
identification and resolution of tax issues.
• Develop training materials to inform and educate non-tax personnel on complex tax
issues.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field.
• 5-7 years professional-level tax accounting experience
• State and local tax experience required.
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required.
• Maintain ongoing licenses to practice in all applicable states.
